A renown Niger Delta activist comrade Daniel Sapele, has asked the executive governor of Bayelsa state senator Douye Diri, to sack the vice Chancellor of the state own Niger Delta University (NDU).
Comrade Sapele, made the call in yenagoa capital of the state at the backdrop of the protest staged by the university student body, around 10am this morning following the declaration by the vice Chancellor that all engineering students henceforth must be on school uniform and that the uniform must be the one the school authority will provides at a cost of thirty thousand naira (#30,000) for Marine Engineering students, while students from other engineering departments must have their uniforms at the rate of twenty thousand naira (#20,000).
He said the vice Chancellor, went further to add salt to the students wounds by declaring that any student who has been offered admission that's yet to pay his/her clearance and school fees on time such student's portal will be close, admission withdrawn and should carry his/her bag and leave the school.
The declared policies by the vice Chancellor according to Sapele are not only unlawful, inhuman but are also wicked and barbaric. Comrade Sapele said, many homes are are finding it very hard to feed due to the effects of the global pandemic and Nigeria's current economic maladies and not to talk of paying such huge needless amount of money as learning fees.
Comrade Sapele, said education is the birth-right of all Bayelsans and government at all levels are under obligation to provide not just quality but education that's accessible and affordable and not the way and manner the VC. is running the institution like his private farm.
Sapele, said he has been skeptical about how the VC. runs the school like his private estate without recourse to public sympathy and human feelings which is the bedrock upon all government institutions are founded, he said if the VC. isn't sacked and replaced with someone with human feelings and conscience all efforts and legacies respective administrations has contributed to the advancement of one of the most revered tertiary institutions in heart of the Niger Delta will go down the drain if he's not sacked.
The Ogbotobo born activist, said he's therefore calling on the executive governor of the state to immediately relief the VC.of his position and bring in someone that could revive the institution that's speedily dying due to the selfishness and greed of the vice Chancellor.
Egbemo 1, as he's fondly called said it is only the immediate sack of the vice Chancellor that can save the state own University from total collapse he averred.
